Experience
Mike maintains a health law practice for Kozak & Gayer advising hospitals, nursing facilities, FQHCs, mental health providers, and other heath care entities and professionals on a wide array of corporate, transactional, privacy, and regulatory compliance matters. He has significant experience with federal and state confidentiality law issues, commercial payor-provider arrangements, health care services and licensing agreements, and federal health insurance reforms instituted under the Affordable Care Act. Mike regularly conducts trainings for health care entities on compliance with federal and state privacy laws including HIPAA, 42 C.F.R. Part 2, and Maine privacy statutes and rules.

Mike has spoken at numerous trainings and seminars on health law matters. While in law school, Mike was an editor of the Maine Law Review and practiced as a student attorney for the Maine Disability Rights Center. He also completed internships at the Maine Office of the Attorney General and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Portland. Prior to law school, Mike was an AmeriCorps VISTA working for Wyoming Legal Services in Lander, Wyoming. Mike is also a registered nurse with clinical experience in inpatient hospital settings.
