Kozak & Gayer focuses its practice on health care law, providing a full spectrum of legal services to our clients, who are primarily health care providers. The firm's office is located in Augusta, Maine; however, our attorneys travel as needed. Our principal clients include individual hospitals, hospital systems, physician-hospital organizations and other provider networks, physician practices, federally qualified health centers, rural health clinics, home health agencies, long term care facilities, mental health and substance abuse treatment programs, and other health care providers.

We provide a comprehensive array of legal services to clients in the health care industry, both within the State of Maine and elsewhere, on issues ranging from general corporate matters to all aspects of federal and state regulatory compliance. We regularly counsel numerous health care providers and provider networks on matters including reimbursement, compliance with fraud and abuse laws, federal and state tax-exemption issues, antitrust, clinical issues, and patient rights. We have significant experience in complex matters including mergers, affiliations, and restructurings of hospitals and health care systems, certificate of need applications and waivers, tax-exempt bond financing, and managed care contracting.

Collectively, the attorneys at Kozak & Gayer have a depth and breadth of experience in health law matters that is matched only by the health law departments of the nation's largest law firms. However, we are known for our responsiveness, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

We provide legal services to our hospital clients on a flexible basis. For some hospitals, we serve as general counsel and review all legal matters involving the client, assigning to other firms any matters that we do not personally handle. For other clients, we provide services only as requested and as needed. In all cases, we pride ourselves on working collaboratively and cooperatively with the client's other counsel and non-legal advisors and consultants.
